Freedom to live safely is far more important than right to bear arms

There are so many sad gun violence anniversaries in the United States. Oct. 1 is the sixth anniversary of the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival mass shooting, which occurred on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada.

During this event, more than 1,000 bullets were fired by one shooter from a 32nd floor hotel room, killing 60 people and injuring at least 413. To quote a sixth-grader from the Chapel Hill Carrboro school district, who recently experienced a school lockdown, ‘Why does this keep happening?’

I think the answer is in who we elect and trust to push through gun safety legislation.

Ingram Haizlip: We need a governor who’ll address gun violence

Six years ago today, a man opened fire on a concert crowd in Las Vegas, killing 58 and wounding several hundred in the deadliest mass shooting by a single gunman in American history.

A few weeks after the horrific tragedy, Mark Robinson cast doubt on the mass shooting, posting on his Facebook page that he was “SERIOUSLY skeptical” about what happened in Las Vegas.

Letters: Robinson off the mark on gun issues

As a current resident of Northampton County, I am proud of my right to bear arms.

Living in America requires a balance of self-reliance and responsibility.

I have young grandchildren, which is one of the reasons my gun is always locked, unloaded and out of reach of small curious hands.

Letter to the Editor: Right to bear arms responsibly

As a current resident of Northampton County, I am proud of my right to bear arms.

Living in America requires a balance of self-reliance and responsibility. I have young grandchildren, which is one of the reasons my gun is always locked, unloaded and out of reach of small curious hands. It is my duty to be responsible and adhere to safe gun measures, such as background checks, which are important and save lives. Over 89% of my fellow North Carolinians support universal background checks as well. Lt. Governor Mark Robinson, however, is against it. Robinson is also on the board of the NRA (National Rifle Association), which wants to get rid of concealed carry weapon permits. As Governor, Mark Robinson would take away my right, and my grandchildren’s right, to feel safe in my community.
